ABOUT DAVID TBILISI MEDICAL UNIVERSITY.

The Petre Shotadze Tbilisi Medical Academy was founded in the year 1992 and from the very next year, about 1600 students have enrolled and graduated while a batch of 50 got the degree of PhD.

The founding members of the institution were professors Dmitry Tsverava and Peter Shotadze. When Peter Shotadze died in the year 2000, the academy was named after him. The academy is a self-governing institution which is run by highly qualified academic staff.

The institution follows all laws and standard practices of the Tbilisi Medical Academy. In the year 2011, the academy was included in the World Health Organisation’s list of medical schools.

TBILISI MEDICAL ACADEMY FACULTY AND COURSES.

TMA or Tbilisi Medical Academy offers two programs – one in Medicine and the other in Dentistry. The degrees awarded are the Doctor of Dental Medicine and Medical Doctor. The two courses are called One Step Programme – Medicine and One Step Programme – Dentistry. The former is a 6 year long course with 2 semesters per year. The latter is a five year long course with again, 2 semesters per year. The value of these programs is the same as the second stage of higher academic education all over the world. Graduates can start practising as junior doctors and teach in medical institutions any subject related to the theoretical aspect of medicine and dentistry – basically do anything which does not involve individual practice. Post diploma education programs are offered in cardiology, medical rehabilitation, therapeutic stomatology, sport’s medicine and obstetrics-gynaecology.

STAFF AND TEACHING @ DAVID TBILISI MEDICAL UNIVERSITY 

According to the TMA, their aim is to bring up students in such as a way so as to make them able enough to use independent thoughts via critical means and create one’s own identity to make sense of the latest in medical science. This is how they profess to build professional, knowledgeable and thoughtful doctors. The teaching language is English for the course on Medicine while the one on Dentistry is primarily taught in Georgian and English is used as an optional language. The standards of teaching correspond to any international level course on medicine and dentistry. Teaching is conducted through the help of lectures, practical classes, seminars, group studies, individual works, participation in research and more. Every year anything between 250 and 500 students get admission into this institute. The number of teaching staff ranges between 100 and190, approximately.

Tbilisi Medical Academy welcomes international students from around the world. The students are welcomed to commence education and to transfer from other institutions as well.

Available Program : 6 year MD Program.

Tuition Fee : 5000 $ (each year)

Admission Fee : 200 $

Payment plan : First year tuition fee should be paid in one installment, during the enrollment process.

From second year, tuition fee can be paid in two installments, before the commencement of each semester.

The language of instruction is - English.

In case, if an applicant doesn’t have a proof of proficiency in English, (language certificate or school-leaving document from English taught school) applicant has to demonstrate fluency to the University special comity (can be done through the Skype call). Tbilisi Medical Academy has a Preparatory Course for the applicants, who are lacking fluency in English,) with intensive teaching for 3-6-9 months.
